A pôr fim à longa espera dos fãs, os Seether estrearam-se em Portugal com concertos no Porto e em Lisboa, a 24 e 25 de Novembro. Os sul-africanos apresentaram o último álbum e os maiores sucessos da banda, sempre próxima do público. Mas foi difícil superar a primeira parte, a cargo dos britânicos Heaven's Basement.
Entre os cinco discos no mercado, foi o mais recente álbum que mereceu maior destaque na sala TMN Ao Vivo, em Lisboa. Holding Onto Strings Better Left to Fray, trabalho lançado em 2010, pela banda de Shaun Morgan, Dale Stewart e John Humphrey, trouxe ao alinhamento músicas como 'Fur Cue', 'No Resolution', 'Here and Now', 'Tonight' e 'Country Song'.
Em concertos de estreia, não faltaram alguns dos maiores êxitos da banda, que ganhou nome em 2004, com a colaboração com a vocalista dos Evanescence, Amy Lee. 'Broken', o resultado dessa parceria, viria a ser um dos momentos altos do concerto e um dos mais aplaudidos por um público que entoou todas as letras.
O trio de África do Sul retribuiu o carinho dos portugueses e, num espaço que se presta a isso, esteve sempre próximo das primeiras filas. O baixista/guitarrista Dale Stewart distribuiu palhetas a todos os fãs que pediram, John Humphrey entregou as baquetas com as quais protagonizou um solo durante a actuação, enquanto o vocalista Shaun Morgan agradeceu ao público embora timidamente escondido atrás do cabelo comprido.
Houve ainda tempo para uma cover ('You Know You're Right', Nirvana) antes do encore, que arrancou com 'Fake It'. Seguiu-se 'I'm the One' e 'Remedy' fechou o alinhamento, com o público a cantar a plenos pulmões aquele que é o maior hit dos Seether e a desejar logo ali o regresso da banda a palcos portugueses.
Mas se os Seether foram os cabeças de cartaz da noite, a banda que os antecedeu não fez só o warm up da noite. Os Heaven's Basement deram um concerto difícil de seguir, com guitarras e bateria a rebentar. A banda britânica surpreendeu toda a gente e um vocalista entusiasmado conseguiu mesmo agarrar o público. Aaron Buchanan ficou igualmente surpreendido com a recepção e arriscou num stage dive bem-sucedido.
Ao lado de Buchanan, Sid Glover brilhou na guitarra como um verdadeiro veterano do rock. Rob Ellershaw assegurou o baixo, enquanto Chris Rivers deu espectáculo na bateria. O grupo já lançou dois EPs e vai editar em Fevereiro o primeiro álbum de estúdio - Filthy Empire.
Mas o forte dos Heaven's Basement está nas actuações ao vivo e, para quem não esteve nos concertos em Portugal, as tours sucessivas são prova disso mesmo. Entre elas, contam-se as primeiras partes de bandas como Papa Roach, Theory of a Deadman, Tesla e Bon Jovi. Em Outubro, entraram nos Estados Unidos pela mão dos The Darkness.
Banda que vale a pena seguir, os Heaven's Basement são mais um produto que atesta a qualidade da música britânica. Como se ainda houvesse dúvidas.

Fans have been waiting for quite a long time for Seether to come to Portugal. IIt finally happened on November 24th and 25th, with two concerts in Porto and Lisbon. But the South African band faced the tough challenge of following up Heaven's Basement, the band in charge of warming up the crowd and who ended up delivering a power concert worthy of a headliner.
The last one of Seether's five published records had a special attention in the set list of the shows. Holding Onto Strings Better Left to Fray was released in 2010 and includes songs such as 'Fur Cue', 'No Resolution', 'Here and Now', 'Tonight' and 'Country Song', which were played in Lisbon.
The band didn't fail to bring some of their major hits, like 'Broken'. The song that had the collaboration of Evanescence's lead singer Amy Lee brought Seether to the spotlight in 2004. It was also one of the better moments of the night with the crowd singing along all the lyrics to the song.
The group of South Africa was close to the fans. Bass and guitar player Dale Stewart gave away guitar picks to everyone who asked and John Humphrey handed his drumsticks. Hiding behind his long hair, Shaun Morgan thanked people for their support.
There was enough time for a cover ('You Know You're Right' by Nirvana) just before the encore. 'Fake It' and 'I'm the One' brought the band back to the stage. With 'Remedy' the band wrapped up the show while the crowd sang along to what is probably Seether's greatest hit.
Before Seether, Heaven's Basement put on a great show, hard to follow. The drums and guitar were bursting up while the voice and energy of Aaron Buchanan grabbed the crowd. The British group was surprised by the reaction of the Portuguese crowd and Buchanan, the lead singer, even risked on a successful stage dive. It was pretty obvious that the band enjoyed the welcoming reaction by the fans of Seether.
Heaven's Basement would be incomplete without Sid Glover, the guitar player who performed as a real rock veteran. Rob Ellershaw mastered the bass while Chris Rivers amazed with his drums skills.
The band has two EPs and is about to released the first album studio. Filthy Empire will be out in January 2013. But their greatest strength is in live performances and many bands have recognised that. Heaven's Basement opened up for bands such as Papa Roach, Theory of a Deadman, Tesla and Bon Jovi. The Darkness invited them to the US, in October.
Heaven's Basement is a band worth following. And they're another proof that the UK delivers some of the best music worldwide, regardless the genre. For those who weren't sure of it by now.
