The BRITs are coming

In a few hours, The BRIT Awards 2013 will be gathering some of the artists who brought us the best in music last year.

The event will be broadcasted on ITV1 and ITV1 HD and can be followed on the official YouTube channel, which you can visit right away to warm up with a few nice exclusive videos.

Viewers outside of the UK can follow live updateds at the awards' Facebook page, Tumblr and Twitter (under the hashtags #BRITs2013, #BRITAwards, #BRITstagram).

Shazam is also arranging something interesting for tonight.

The ceremony will have performances by Muse, Ben Howard, Mumford & Sons, Emeli Sandé, Justin Timberlake, Robbie Williams, One Direction and Taylor Swift (enough of her, already!).

Emeli Sandé is up for four prizes: Best Female, Best Album and Best Single, with two tracks. Mumford & Sons, Alt-J and Rita Ora have three nominations each, while Muse, Plan B, Olly Murs, Ben Howard and Jessie Ware have two nominations.

Nas nomeações, quem lidera é Emeli Sandé, a concorrer para quatro categorias - Best Female, Best Album e Best Single, com duas músicas. Mumford & Sons, Alt-J e Rita Ora seguem com três nomeações, enquanto Muse, Plan B, Olly Murs, Ben Howard e Jessie Ware concorrem a dois prémios.

55th Grammy Awards: the performers

This year's Grammys ceremony is bringing lots of great artists to the stage, not only to receive awards but also to perform. And that's a big part of the show.

The Black Keys are nominated in five categories with El Camino. Before winning any of those prizes, they will be performing with Dr. John in a tribute to the late jazz icon Dave Brubeck.

In the list of the most nominated artists, Kelly Clarkson is also going to present something from the album Stronger live at the 55th Grammys. Fun and Mumford & Sons, both up for Best New Artist, are going to play something as well.

Ed Sheeran has received an invitation to return to the Grammy's stage after last year's performances and this time he's not alone. Sheeran will be singing a duet with Sir Elton John.

In what concerns stage collaborations, Bruno Mars will be joined by Sting and Rihanna (what?!), Maroon 5 are playing with Alicia Keys, and as a tribute to Levon Helm (The Band) Mumford & Sons will go on with Zack Brown, Elton John and T Bone Burnett.

Mumford & Sons, who are up for six awards, are also playing solo, just like Frank Ocean, Fun, The Lumineers and Jack White. Justin Timberlake is expected to bring his latest news.

A cerimónia dos Grammys deste ano traz actuações de qualidade de muitos artistas nomeados.

Os The Black Keys têm o nome em seis categorias principais. O dueto americano convida Dr. John para um tributo ao ícone do jazz, Dave Brubeck.

A Kelly Clarkson marca a presença feminina da noite. A cantora do American Idol recebeu várias nomeações, como também os Mumford & Sons e os Fun. Frank Ocean, The Lumineers e Jack White juntam-se à lista das actuações dos 55º Prémios Grammy. Justin Timberlake deverá levar o seu material novo de que anda meio mundo a falar. 

No campo das colaborações, há Ed Sheeran com Elton John, que se junta mais tarde aos Mumford &Sons, Zack Brown e T Bone Burnett para prestar homenagem a Levon Helm (The Band). Bruno Mars actuará com Rihanna e Sting, numa combinação algo estranha. Maroon 5 e Alicia Keys também se juntam para os Grammys.

The 55th Grammy Awards are almost here

They call it music's biggest night. It's definitely an exciting event and this year, with three new categories, 81 golden gramophones are being awarded next Sunday, February 10th.

La Blogothèque invited many artists to perform at intimate sessions and these are just a few of those of beautiful moments the French website created under the name A Take Away Show.

For those who don't know La Blogothèque (I didn't until not long ago), here how they present this project. "For six years, La Blogothèque has changed the way people experience music. We film beautiful, rare and intimate sessions with your favorite artists, and the ones you are soon to fall in love with".

Mumford and Sons play 'Tessellate'

Mumford and Sons are amazing. Alt-J are great. Combine the two bands and the result is this.

Marcus Mumford and the guys took Alt-J's 'Tessellate' and made their own version of the hit. They played it at Radio 1's Live Lounge along with 'I Will Wait', the first single of their latest album, Babel.

Alt-J are nominated for the Mercury Prize with their debut record, An Awesome Wave.

Juntar Mumford and Sons e Alt-J só pode dar um resultado extraordinário.

Foi assim quando a banda de Marcus Mumford pegou em 'Tessellate', um dos hits dos Alt-J, e fez uma cover da música folk style. Aconteceu no Radio 1's Live Lounge, onde os britânicos estiveram a apresentar Babel, o último disco. 'I Will Wait' é o single de avanço.

Os Alt-J são a banda sensação dos últimos tempos e estão nomeados para o Mercury Prize com o álbum de estreia, An Awesome Wave. O seu regresso a Portugal está confirmado, no Vodafone Mexefest em Lisboa, nos dias 7 e 8 de Dezembro.

∆ não é só mais um shortcut

Andava num marasmo, sem saber que música escolher e o iPod ficava-se por um shuffle surdo e insatisfatório. Até que os ouvi na rádio. Saquei do Shazam e arranjei a banda sonora para as próximas semanas.

São mais um produto da era musical dos shortcuts (parentes dos Cut Copy, pelo menos de nome). Os Alt-J (∆) vêm do Reino Unido, mas andam mais perto da indie americana do que da pop britânica e não têm medo de se chegar à folk com barulho de pratos e sintetizadores.

O primeiro álbum tem nome destemido – An Awesome Wave – e já pôs este lado do mundo a dançar. Prova disso é a recente nomeação para o prestigiado Mercury Prize, que destaca os melhores álbuns britânicos e irlandeses do ano. Ao lado de Django Django, Michael Kiwanuka e The XX, e a tentarem suceder a PJ Harvey e Arctic Monkeys, os Alt-J são candidatos de peso ao Mercury Prize.

Para surpresa de muitos, os Alt-J também já passaram por Portugal. Aconteceu no Milhões de Festa, há poucos meses, e foi considerada uma das melhores apresentações deste festival de Barcelos, o que só vem reafirmar que a música portuguesa está em fase de desenvolvimento criativo – das inúmeras bandas que surgem por todo o país com traços bem próprios e originais às escolhas dos festivais para os seus cartazes. Não esquecer a existência de tantos e tão bons festivais.
 
Dos Alt-j fazem parte Joe Newman (é dele a voz ímpar que se ouve nas músicas da banda), Gwil Sainsbury (homem de cordas: guitarrista e baixista), Thom Green (bateria) e Gus Unger-Hamilton (teclas).

Vale a pena conhecer estes rapazes.

This is something new. Urban Blues now collaborates with Look Mag. We will publish every month a new post about matters you would read here, like Portuguese music, international indie bands, music news, etc.

The first post was about Alt-J (∆), a British band that combines indie, pop and folk. With some synths.

They've recently been to Portugal, at Milhões de Festa festival and they are getting some recognition. They're up for the Mercury Prize, along with nominees Django Django, Michael Kiwanuka and The XX. An Awesome Wave is their first album and, if they're lucky, it will be awarded this prestigious prize that was previously given to names such as PJ Harvey and Arctic Monkeys.

Check the video above and you will certainly be following Alt-J. They're not just another shortcut.

Os britânicos estreiam-se em Portugal no dia 14 de Julho e actuam na noite de Florence + The Machine e The Cure, no palco principal do Optimus Alive.

Mumford & Sons are the most recent addition to the festival that is, for me, presenting the best  line up among the big festivals.

The British band play for the first time in Portugal on July 14th and perform in the same night as Florence + The Machine and The Cure, at the main stage of Optimus Alive.
