New in: deadmau5, The Killers, Bloc Party, No Doubt and Blur

Yes, we do need new material.

First in, My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way took a break from the dark side and joined forces with house master deadmau5. hey recorded a track named 'Professional Griefers', to be released on September 2nd. In the meantime, My Chemical Romance are working on a new album.

The Killers are about to released their latest album, Battle Born. Their first work in 4 years will be out on September 17th. 'Runaways' is the first single, a classic Killers' song with an epic feeling in it.

Bloc Party released the video for the first single of their new album, Four, to be released on August 28th. The song is called 'Octupus' and we got to listen to it live last week at Super Bock Super Rock fest in Lisbon.

'Settle Down' is the fisrt single of the much antecipated comeback of No Doubt. After releasing a preview, the band will present the song tomorrow. Push and Shove, the album, is set to be out on September 25th.

Blur have granted fans with two new songs and appear to be on a creative stage just when everyone thought the band wasn't going to reunite. 'Under the Westway' and 'The Puritan' are available on iTunes.

Já estavamos a precisar de ouvir coisas novas.

A primeira novidade vem de uma reunião inesperada. Gerard Way, o vocalista dos My Chemical Romance, e deadmau5, o já guru do house, juntaram-se para gravar 'Professional Griefers', single que será lançado oficialmente a 2 de Setembro. A banda de Gerard Way está a preparar um novo álbum.

Os The Killers também trazem material fresco, um novo álbum que sairá a 17 de Setembro e marca o regresso da banda depois de 4 anos sem gravar. ''Runaways' é o primeiro single, uma música clássica com o som dos The Killers, a soar a algo grandioso.

Four está quase aí. É o novo disco dos Bloc Party e sai a 28 de Agosto. 'Octupus' é o single de apresentação, que pudemos ouvir ao vivo na semana passada no Super Bock Super Rock.

Os No Doubt já há muito andam a falar do seu regresso e é já amanhã que vamos poder ouvir o single 'Settle Down'. Quanto ao disco, sai a 25 de Setembro e tem como título Push and Shove.

Os míticos Blur resolveram presentear os fãs da banda com duas novas músicas provando que estão numa reunião muito criativa. 'Under the Westway' e 'The Puritan' estão disponíveis no iTunes.

BRITs review: a nice little show

The BRITs have come and gone. The British music night brought little surprises, except maybe for Ed Sheeran's being the big winner.

Overall, I thought it wasn't amazing but it was a much better show than this year's Grammys. The performances topped the ones presented at the Grammys -  by the same artists. The all ceremony seemed to have a lot more preparation than its American counterpart.

The light effects were beautifully put especially during performances and the shape of the stage worked well with the space.

James Corden, the repeating presenter, printed the English class and sense of humour into the award show.

For the downside, I thought the tributes for Whitney Houston and Amy Winehouse could have been a lot better. The BRITs organisation could have gotten someone to perform one of their hits or something other than simple videos of the singers.

One thing I find odd is that more British legends are being honoured in th US than in the UK. MTV EMAs 2011 invited Queen's Brian May and Roger Taylor to perform and Paul McCartney played twice at the Grammys. On the other hand, thumbs up for Blur's Outstanding Contribute to Music award - who put up a great mini-show. They have grown old, though.

Lá se foram mais uns BRITs. A noite da música britânica não trouxe muitas surpresas, talvez com a excepção de Ed Sheeran ter sido o grande vencedor da noite.

No geral, achei que a cerimónia foi muito melhor que a dos Grammys. As actuações - dos mesmos artistas que actuaram nos Grammys - foram superiores. Todo o espectáculo pareceu ter mais preparação do que o seu homólogo americano.

Os efeitos de luzes foram muito bons, especialmente durante as actuações, e mesmo a forma do palco funcionava bem no espaço.

O apresentador repetente nestas andanças, James Corden, cunhou a cerimónia da classe e humor britânicos - como não podia deixar de ser.

Quanto aos aspectos negativos, achei que os tributos a Whitney Houston e Amy Winehouse podiam ter sido bem melhores. A organização podia ter convidado alguém para recordar êxitos das cantoras ou outra coisa para além dos simples vídeos de memórias.

Acho curioso que os Estados Unidos andem a homenagear mais lendas da música britânica do que o próprio Reino Unido. Os MTV EMAs de 2011 tiveram a actuação de Brian May e Roger Taylor dos Queen e Paul McCartney cantou duas vezes nos Grammys. Por outro lado, foi bem atribuído o prémio de Contributo Excepcional para a Música aos Blur - que deram um mini-concerto de grandes músicas, . Mas estão velhos, nota-se.

Blur will be receiving next February 21st the BRIT Award of Outstanding Contribution to Music. What better reason to remember the classic ‘Song 2’?

I feel like Blur were never really a very popular band, and yet they have had a huge impact in and beyond British music. This 1997 song has been covered so many times in so many ways throughout the years, but that wohooo leaves no room for doubts – and it also sticks you, doesn’t it? Wohooooooooo

Acho que os Blur nunca foram uma banda muito popular; ainda assim, tiveram um impacto brutal tanto na música britânica como para além dela. Esta música de 1997 tem tantas covers diferentes, mas é impossível não a reconhecer pelo wohooo - que fica na cabeça, não fica? Wohooooooooo
