Rock in Rio Lisbon 2012 in pictures: day 5

The last day of Rock in Rio was all about Bruce Springsteen and the best day in terms of music, though the whole festival was full of great music. From Vodafone Showcases to the World Stage passing by the Sunset stage, artists proved to be and to bring along amazing musicians.

This is the best part of Rock in Rio - it brings big time legends who haven't played in Portugal in a really long time, artists who are expected by so many fans from different generations, much like the 81 thousand visitors that went to Parque da Bela Vista on June 3rd.

O último dia do Rock in Rio ficou marcado pelo concerto de Bruce Springsteen e foi o melhor em termos de música. Do Vodafone Showcases ao Palco Mundo, passando pelo Palco Sunset, os artistas provaram que são e que se fazem rodear de excelentes músicos.

Esta é a melhor parte do Rock in Rio - o facto de conseguir trazer lendas que já não actuam em Portugal há muitos anos e que são capazes de reunir fãs de todas as gerações, como as 81 mil pessoas que marcaram presença no dia 3 de Junho.

 

 

 

 

  

You may have noticed by the amount of Kaiser Chiefs pictures that I loved their show. I did. I was expecting nothing less than amazing from them because of lead singer Ricky Wilson and his usual energetic performance. Even in only 50 minutes of show, he manage to sing the entire time, jump and run up and down the stage and even fly over the crowd by going down the slide that connected one side of he venue to the other.

After Bruce Springsteen, Kaiser Chiefs were the heroes of day #5.

Já devem ter reparado pela quantidade de fotografias dos Kaiser Chiefs que adorei o concerto deles. Não se esperava outra coisa. A habitual energia do Ricky Wilson é lendária. Em apenas 50 minutos de concerto ele conseguiu cantar o tempo todo, andar aos saltos, correr pelo palco inteiro e ainda voar por cima da multidão ao descer no slide que ligava as duas pontas do recinto.

A seguir ao  Bruce Springsteen, os Kaiser Chiefs foram os heróis do dia 5.

 

Bruce Springsteen is on a roll, with his recent album and present tour. The show in Rock in Rio sure proved that. He was the king of the last day and, I think it is fair to say, of the whole festival. There were people camping outside the venue at luncch time, though doors only opened at 16 p.m.

Bruce Springsteen está numa óptima fase da sua carreira e o concerto no Rock in Rio foi prova disso mesmo. Ele foi o rei da noite e, parece-me justo, de todo o festival. Já havia gente acampada no primeiro ponto de entrada do festival às 13h apesar de as portas só abrirem às 16h.

Rock in Rio Lisbon 2012 in pictures: day 4

The promise of Stevie Wonder at the end of day 4 of Rock in Rio Lisbon 2012 moved 73 thousand people to the venue. Bryan Adams returned once more to Portugal, playing around 2 hours of his rock ballads, while Joss Stone put on her classic soulful performance. The Gift opened up the main stage.

Com Stevie Wonder a fechar a noite, o dia 4 do Rock in Rio Lisboa 2012 não foi o mais cheio mas pareceu - ficou pelas 73 mil pessoas. Bryan Adams deu um dos concertos mais concorridos, já que toda a gente quis ver e ouvir ao vivo as clássicas baladas rock do músico canadiano. Joss Stone apresentou um concerto cheio de soul, logo a seguir à abertura de The Gift.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Stevie Wonder played more songs than it was expected by the set list put up before the show. It was amazing to see this legend having as much fun as the crowd, which was quite a middle aged crowd.

O Stevie Wonder tocou mais músicas do que estava previsto no alinhamento. Foi fantástico poder ver esta autêntica lenda a dar um espectáculo e a divertir-se tanto quanto o público, um público manifestamente mais velho.

Rock in Rio Lisbon 2012 in pictures: day 3

Contrary to what is usual, there wasn't one specific day dedicated to children at this year's Rock in Rio. No Justin Bieber or Rihanna as many voices asked for in the months previous to the festival. Instead, there were shows by the repeatants Ivete Sangalo and Lenny Kravitz, the Portuguese Expensive Soul and the debutants in Portugal Maroon 5. 74 thousands went to Parque da Bela Vista. Ao contrário do que é habitual, este ano não a organização do Rock in Rio não dedicou espaço no alinhamento às crianças. Não houve Justin Bieber nem Rihanna apesar de terem sido muitos os pedidos que se fizeram ouvir antes do encerramento do cartaz. Em vez disso, o dia 1 de Junho, Dia Internacional da Criança, teve os repetentes Ivete Sangalo e Lenny Kravitz, os portugueses Expensive Soul e os estreantes para o público português Maroon 5. In my opinion, organisation should have made a different distribution of time. Yes, Lenny Kravitz was the headliner but I would rather have watched half an hour more of Maroon 5 than the last 30 minutes of his two hour show.

Cá para mim, a organização devia ter distribuído o tempo dos concertos de forma diferente. Menos de uma hora de Maroon 5 foi pouco e Lenny Kravitz já estava a encher no final das 2 horas do seu concerto.

Rock in Rio Lisbon 2012 in pictures: day 2

Rock in Rio rocked  the hell out of Lisbon the past two weekends. Here are some pictures of the second day, especially the shows we watched. Main attractions were the shows by Smashing Pumpkins and Linkin Park, who moved a big part of the 83 thousand people that went to Parque da Bela Vista on May 26th.

O Rock in Rio Lisboa 2012 foi um sucesso e foi difícil pensar na crise ao ver os milhares de pessoas que foram à Bela Vista. Ficam aqui algumas fotografias do segundo dia, em particular dos concertos que vi. Smashing Pumpkins e Linkin Park eram as atracções principais, mas foram estes últimos os responsáveis pela presença de grande parte das 83 mil pessoas a 26 de Maio.

Xutos e Pontapés shared the Sunset stage with Brazilian band Titãs, before the went up on the main stage on the second weekend of the festival. They were at all the past editions of Rock in Rio Lisbon.

Os Xutos e Pontapés, que estiveram em todas as edições do Rock in Rio Lisboa, partilharam o palco Sunset com os brasileiros Titãs, um ensaio antes de subirem ao palco principal no fim-de-semana seguinte.

Linkin Park put on the best show of the night, though they weren't headliners of the main stage. Fans loved the show, which lasted for 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Os Linkin Park deram o melhor concerto da noite, ainda que não tenham sido os cabeças de cartaz. Os fãs adoraram o concerto de 1h40.

Rock in Rio 2012: e um festival só de Vodafone Showcases?

Desconhecia a existência do palco Vodafone Showcases até ao primeiro dia do Rock in Rio Lisboa 2012. Que agradável surpresa. Foi onde vi alguns dos meus concertos de que mais gostei no festival, onde conheci bandas novas, onde vi os primeiros concertos de outras de que já gostava.

Teve uma óptima organização e uma localização privilegiada. Não teve gente na primeira fila durante horas, mas quem por lá passou uma vez para fazer um intervalo dos concertos principais, voltou. Encontrámos as mesmas pessoas várias vezes, a vibrar com a entrega das bandas - muitas nacionais. Encontrámos também alguns músicos do cenário português, a apreciar as actuações dos colegas e amigos (ou a espreitar como corriam, antes de subirem eles próprios ao pequeno palco  - a sério, Vodafone, não havia verba para mais uns 2 ou 3 metros quadrados?).

Falhou só por darem tão pouco tempo para os concertos. A maioria não durou mais de meia hora e alguns até coincidiram com espectáculos no Palco Mundo (ouvia-se The Glockenwise, se não me engano, entre as primeiras músicas dos Linkin Park no dia 26 de Maio). A Vodafone também podia ter apostado mais na divulgação deste palco e do cartaz.

Entretanto, andei a descobrir durante a semana passada a rádio Vodafone FM. Falo dela noutra altura, mas fica já o conselho - para quem gosta de música mais alternativa, original e interessante, vale a pena sintonizar.

Ficam os vídeos divulgados pela marca que, infelizmente, estão muito aquém dos grandes concertos que as bandas deram no Rock in Rio 2012.

Samuel Úria. Deu um concerto bestial com música muito boa. Vi-o no metro um dia destes e as pessoas, quase tão impávidas e serenas como as deste vídeo, nem se manifestaram à sua presença. A mim custa-me ficar indiferente à genialidade, peço desculpa.

Dos Ladrões do Tempo só conhecia o nome e fiquei rendida a esta colaboração. Uma reunião de gente que sabe muito sobre fazer boa música: Tó Trips e Pedro Gonçalves (Dead Combo), Paulo Franco (Dapunksportif), Samuel Palitos (A Naifa) e Zé Pedro (Xutos e Pontapés).

Os doismileoito provaram como ainda se pode fazer música e letras originais. E com muito estilo. Vale a pena ver o acústico pós-concerto.

Cheguei já eles tinham começado. Julie & The Carjackers não dão um concerto muito enérgico mas, ainda assim, bom para se ouvir no final de uma tarde agitada.

The Glockenwise. Não os vi, só os ouvi ao longe. Com muita pena.

Como não encontrei um vídeo só d'Os Lacraus e outro d'Os Pontos Negros, fica este compacto. Os Pontos Negros dominaram o Vodafone Showcases no último dia, em que alguns elementos da banda subiram ao palco durante toda a tarde, primeiro com Os Lacraus, depois com Samuel Úria e, antes dos Xutos, com o resto do grupo. Apresentaram-se com um "nós somos os Bruce Springsteen", o grande rei da noite e desta edição do Rock in Rio.

So, I hadn't heard about Vodafone Showcases until the first day of this year's edition of Rock in Rio Lisbon and it was a pleasant surprise. That stage had some of my favourite shows in the festival as well as performances by amazing bands that I did not know before and other that I was very curious to watch live.

It was very well planned and had a perfect location near by the main stage. Though many people stopped by the Vodafone stage, there were no fans camping out in the first row. The audience was composed by many curious music lovers, friends supporting the bands and many musicians watching their colleagues and preparing for their own shows.

For the downside, shows were all pretty short, no more than half an hour. And some of the bands were finishing up while shows the main stage had started. I also think Vodafone could have promoted the shows a little  more.

By the way, last week I started listening to Vodafone FM and I'm loving the alternative vibe of this radio.

Rock in Rio entra em Buenos Aires

No último dia do 5º Rock in Rio Lisboa, a organização confirmou a edição de 2014 e anunciou a entrada em Buenos Aires já no próximo ano. Roberto Medina tem planos para levar o festival a mais cidades em todo o mundo.

Em conferência de imprensa com a participação do presidente da câmara, António Costa e do governador de Buenos Aires, Mauricio Macri, governador de Buenos Aires, o presidente do Rock in Rio, Roberto Medina, e a vice-presidente, Roberta Medina, fizeram o balanço desta edição do RIR Lisboa e sublinharam como o evento contribuiu para animar os portugueses em tempos difíceis.

"Portugal está em crise mas a cidade do rock", citava ontem o jornal El País. Foi com esta referência que o organizador sublinhou a realização do Rock in Rio em Lisboa como um exemplo de empreendedorismo, no qual "vale a pena investir". Em ano de crise, as vendas do festival subiram 21% em relação à última edição.

O Rock in Rio está a apostar em novas localizações e aconteceu em Buenos Aires, já em 2013. A Rock Street - que teve sucesso este ano tanto no Rio de Janeiro como em Lisboa - vai repetir-se, desta vez inspirada em Londres e na cultura britânica. É ainda novidade o Sky Lounge, restaurante a 2000 metros de altitude. O evento terá lugar no Parque de la Ciudad, que o representante argentino Mauricio Macri afirma ter capacidade para mais de 100 mil visitantes.

António Costa congratulou a cidade argentina e o seu governante por se juntar às capitais da família Rock in Rio, partilhando esta marca mundial. Roberto Medina quer levar o festival ao continente asiático, aos Estados Unidos e a mais países da Europa.

Nos planos do Rock in Rio poderão estar Alemanha e Angola, de que falou Roberta Medina.

On the last day of the fifth Rock in Rio Lisbon, the organisation held a press conference to announce the next edition of the festival, on 2014, and the first time that the event will take place in Buenos Aires, on 2013. To bring the event to several other countries is a goal of Rock in Rio.

The president and vice-president, Roberto Medina and Roberta Medina, said this year the event brought to Lisbon a sense of well being in the means of a financial crisis that is affecting the people. Despite it, the festival was successful and spread a sense of joy all around in hard times.

"Portugal is in a crises but not the Rock City". This was the sentence that Roberto  Medina highlighted from an article on El País to show how the event went well and was an example that it is worth investing. Sales went up 21% from the last edition of Rock in Rio Lisbon.

Buenos Aires will be receiving Rock in Rio in 2014 for the first time. It will have the Rock Street - a new space introduced this year in Rio and Lisbon, but with the difference that it will be inspired in London and the British culture. There will be a special restaurant, the Sky Lounge, 2000 metres up in the air. Mauricio Macri, the governor of Buenos Aires who was at the press conference, said the event will take place at Parque de la Ciudad, which can receive over 100 thousand visitors.

The governor of Lisbon, António Costa, welcomed Buenos Aires in the Rock in Rio family. Roberto Medina announced they want to include more countries in the map of the festival, in Asia and Europe, besides the United States. Germany and Angola might also be in the future  plans, said Roberta Medina.

Cartazes de verão 2012: o que vem aí

O Negócios publicou hoje uma antevisão dos concertos do ano e destaca aqueles que vale a pena ver.

Ainda ontem o Álvaro Covões dizia no 5 para a meia-noite que as pessoas continuam a ir aos concertos apesar da crise, porque a vida não acaba. Eu bem sei o quanto foi difícil arranjar bilhetes para Bon Iver, em Julho.

Mas num ano em que poupar é a palavra de ordem, é cruel trazer cá tanta gente de qualidade. Ainda assim, acho melhores os concertos em nome próprio do que os alinhamentos de alguns festivais. O Rock in Rio desiludiu. Por outro lado, dá vontade de ir a todos os dias do Alive.

Even yesterday the big boss of the promoter Everything Is New, Álvaro Covões, said in a TV show that people are still going to shows despite the crisis. Only I know how much I had to struggle to get tickets to Bon Iver.

It is only cruel that this many good artists are coming here in such a bad year for the Portuguese's music budget. Rock in Rio Lisboa failed to surprise. Optimus Alive has a great line-up for all the days.

Rock in Rio 2012: James no dia 3

Em 2011, brindaram-nos com concertos nas Festas do Mar, em Cascais, e no Funchal Music Fest. O público gosta, e os James voltam a Portugal, desta vez para actuar no Rock in Rio.

Na noite de Bruce Springsteen e de Xutos e Pontapés, os James estreiam-se no festival no dia 3 de Junho, com esta e outras músicas:

They were in Portugal last year for two gigs, one in Cascais and one in Funchal. The Portuguese crowds like them, so now they're back, this time to perform at Rock in Rio.

Pairing with Bruce Springsteen and Xutos e Pontapés, James will be making their debut at this festival on June 3rd, with songs like the one above.

The Boss. Acho que o destaque do cartaz deste ano vai para o senhor Bruce Springsteen, que volta a Portugal, com a sua The E Street Band, 19 anos depois da sua passagem pelo nosso país e com um álbum fresco.

The Boss. This year's line-up will be all about Mr. Bruce Springsteen, who returns to Portugal with his The E Street Band, after 19 years of absence, and with a fresh album.

By now, the following artists will be coming back: the inevitable Ivete Sangalo, Lenny Kravitz, Metallica, Xutos e Pontapés and Expensive Soul.

Maroon 5 will be performing in Portugal for the first time.
