NPR brings us these showcases where artists are invited to perform at their music office. They call it Tiny Desk Concerts, which they are.

A NPR inventou um projecto em que convida vários artistas a tocarem algumas músicas nos escritórios da rádio. Chamam-lhes Tiny Desk Concerts e podem ser vistos aqui.

Andava num marasmo, sem saber que música escolher e o iPod ficava-se por um shuffle surdo e insatisfatório. Até que os ouvi na rádio. Saquei do Shazam e arranjei a banda sonora para as próximas semanas.
São mais um produto da era musical dos shortcuts (parentes dos Cut Copy, pelo menos de nome). Os Alt-J (∆) vêm do Reino Unido, mas andam mais perto da indie americana do que da pop britânica e não têm medo de se chegar à folk com barulho de pratos e sintetizadores.
O primeiro álbum tem nome destemido – An Awesome Wave – e já pôs este lado do mundo a dançar. Prova disso é a recente nomeação para o prestigiado Mercury Prize, que destaca os melhores álbuns britânicos e irlandeses do ano. Ao lado de Django Django, Michael Kiwanuka e The XX, e a tentarem suceder a PJ Harvey e Arctic Monkeys, os Alt-J são candidatos de peso ao Mercury Prize.
Para surpresa de muitos, os Alt-J também já passaram por Portugal. Aconteceu no Milhões de Festa, há poucos meses, e foi considerada uma das melhores apresentações deste festival de Barcelos, o que só vem reafirmar que a música portuguesa está em fase de desenvolvimento criativo – das inúmeras bandas que surgem por todo o país com traços bem próprios e originais às escolhas dos festivais para os seus cartazes. Não esquecer a existência de tantos e tão bons festivais.
Dos Alt-j fazem parte Joe Newman (é dele a voz ímpar que se ouve nas músicas da banda), Gwil Sainsbury (homem de cordas: guitarrista e baixista), Thom Green (bateria) e Gus Unger-Hamilton (teclas).

This is something new. Urban Bluesnow collaborates with Look Mag. We will publish every month a new post about matters you would read here, like Portuguese music, international indie bands, music news, etc. The first post was about Alt-J (∆), a British band that combines indie, pop and folk. With some synths. They've recently been to Portugal, at Milhões de Festa festival and they are getting some recognition. They're up for the Mercury Prize, along with nominees Django Django, Michael Kiwanuka and The XX. An Awesome Wave is their first album and, if they're lucky, it will be awarded this prestigious prize that was previously given to names such as PJ Harvey and Arctic Monkeys.

Tem Primavera no nome, mas acontece no Verão. O cartaz deste festival parece celebrar o que de bom se faz na música um bocadinho menos mainstream. E de certeza que o Norte ficou orgulhoso por ter mais um festival lá em cima.

Porto will be receiving for the first time the festival Optimus Primavera Sound, which appears to be celebrating this year the best in a slightly less mainstream music. The North must be proud to have another good festival there.
It will be between July 7th and 10th and there is a bunch of great artists confirmed. Check the picture above to see the complete line up by now.

Sobre os Utter, a Les Inrocks chama-lhes conquistadores de um novo mundo, onde fazem lembrar Sigur Rós.
a Jigsaw fecha o grupo em grande, ao lembrar Tom Waits e Leonard Cohen, no seu "folk viril e astuto".
A publicação francesa faz a viagem pelas regiões de Portugal de onde nos chegam os cinco artistas, lembrando Portugal como a Califórnia da Europa, com o mar, o sol, os vales... E a crise financeira. Chama-lhe "país das descobertas" e elogia, para além do vinho, a música nacional.
The French magazine Les Inrock pointed five Portuguese groups to watch in 2012. Comparing their sounds with such names as Leonard Cohen, the magazine chose Best Youth, X-Wife, Luísa Sobral, Utter and a Jigsaw.
Best Youth left the French in love with their music, described as seductive and placed somewhere between The xx and Winterlies.
X-Wife's cocktails of energetic music and undeniable talent is highly praised, and sounds like Foals and Bloc Party.
Luísa Sobral has left the French hooked on her pop jazz, her Amélie Poulain resemblances and the fact that she sounds like Regina Spektor, Yael Naim, Feist and Stacey Kent.
Les Inrocks calls Utter the conquerors of a new world, where they sail along Sigur Rós.
And it comes down to a Jigsaw, who resembles Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen, with their "manly and clever folk".
The French magazine travels to Portugal's regions from where the five artist come, remembering Portugal as Europe's California, with the sea, the sun, the valleys... And the debt crisis. It calls Portugal the "country of the discoveries" and praises, besides the wine, our music.
